incentives for teachers and school administrators.
Catakaw called on the government to increase salaries and basic incentives for teachers across the country in order to curtail this unwholesome acts that are impeding the progress of the country’s educational system.
The Gbarpolu County District Education Officer made the assertion in Gbarnga over the weekend at an education stakeholders meeting organized by the newly- confirmed Education Minister George Werner.
He noted that the presence of unqualified teachers in the classrooms is also responsible for the downward trend in the educational system and stressing that the government should intervene by replacing them with qualified teachers to improve the system.
Catakaw also cited the failure of parents to monitor their children’s academic activities as one of the crucial misses in the entire system, adding, “Instead of monitoring the children’s school work and activities, they are encouraging them by giving them money to bribe teachers to be promoted.”
He believes that the shortfalls the educational system has incurred can only be dealt with if the government introduces strong policies and ensure that they are fully implemented.
