(LINA) - Carter Center Access to Information program in collaboration with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission has ended a one-day training for local leaders

and heads of government line ministries and agencies in Voinjama, Lofa County .

The training, which brought together 17 participants, including the Superintendent of Lofa County, George S. Dunor, focused on educating them on increasing transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The training also touched on the essence of the Freedom of Information Law and how it links with government’s anti-corruption efforts, which allows public officials to relay information to the public.

Speaking at the close of the training, Carter Center Access to Information Coordinator, Attorney Alphonsus Zeon, said the training was crucial for local leaders because it will widen their knowledge on transparency and accountability and how they can understand issues relating to corruption.

Responding on behalf of the participants, LOFAINFONET Coordinator Boakai Kamara described the training as timely, adding “This training has opened the eyes of local leaders on information sharing.”

Carter Center is currently supporting the efforts of government, the Independent Information Commission and civil society to establish greater transparency in governance through the access to information.
