ONROVIA, June 23 (LINA) - School administrators and students of various academic institutions in Monrovia Tuesday converged at the Capitol Building to protest the proposal by Education Minister George Werner to close schools on June 30.

The demonstration was in opposition to the proposal to close schools and consider the four months of academic work covered as tutorials.

They had gathered at the Capitol Building to witness the appearance of Minister Werner before the plenary of the House of Representatives to clarify to that body the proposal to close schools.

The students and school administrators called on the National Legislature not to honor the proposal, noting that it would make parents and guardians to incur huge financial losses.

Since the proposal by authorities of the Ministry of Education to make adjustment in the current academic calendar, parents and guardians in various quarters have openly opposed the proposal, considering it as an added financial burden.
