MONROVIA, June 30 (LINA) – Development partners will shortly begin to distribute school materials across the country in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE).

The U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) disclosed that the exercise will commence shortly.

UNICEF Representative Sheldon Yett and USAID Representative Patrick White said the distribution will benefit 4,500 public and private schools throughout the country.

The two representatives made the disclosure Monday during a tour of the warehouse where the materials are kept in Clara Town on Bushrod Island.

According to them, materials to be distributed include pens, study books, copy books and pencils, among others, with 735,000 students targeted.

Also speaking during the tour, Education Minister George Werner expressed the gratitude of the Government of Liberia to UNICEF and USAID for their decision to help improve the educational system of the country.

Werner noted that the supplies are key to the deliverables in education, stressing that they will be kept and used for the intended purpose.

He, however, called on parents and communities to get involved and ensure that the materials are protected and applied to benefit the students.
