Making the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Zwedru Wednesday, Huntington said all 19 public health centers are fully staffed with registered nurses and midwives to ensure that maternal health care reaches its full potential in the county.

She told LINA that eight recent graduates from the Southeastern Midwifery Training Institute are to be assigned in the eight health districts across the county, pending the placement of their names on the Ministry of Health payroll.

She noted that the assignment of the graduates in the districts is vital because maternal health problems are prevalent in those areas.

Huntington pointed out that the new midwives, including four males and four females, are to serve the county for a three-year period in keeping with the agreement signed with the county authorities before their enrollment in the institution to serve the people.

This strategy, she maintained, is important to avoid problems in getting staff from outside who at most times lack the will to serve in different counties.
