The proposed legislation entitled: “Health Workers, Infants and Epidemic Survivors’ Protection Bill”, was submitted by Montserrado County Representative Julius Berrian, the Liberia News Agency reports.

The instrument, which was read in Session Tuesday, noted the danger posed to health workers and their beneficiaries, and the vulnerability of children whose parents die from communicable or contagious infectious diseases in the country.

It stressed the need for the Government of Liberia to ensure that health workers and their beneficiaries get insurance with “private and credible” insurance companies which will be responsible to pay their benefits accurately and promptly.

The proposed bill also calls on the government to give what it terms ‘reasonable compensation’ to epidemic survivors in Liberia.

Following the reading of the bill, Plenary forwarded it to the Committees on Health and Social Welfare, Judiciary, Ways, Means and Finance as well as Labor for scrutiny and report within three weeks.
