The Liberian leader also dedicated a warehouse, a concrete wire fencing project along the port shores and ocean front as well as a building containing the monitors of a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) intended to enhance port security.
The projects, according to the Manager of the National Port Authority (NPA), David Williams, are intended to enhance port operations as well as provide quality services for port users and generate revenue to boost the economy.
Williams put the total cost of the projects at over $US 300,000, and assured President Sirleaf that the projects will boost economic activities, attract more investors and encourage companies already operating in Sinoe to invest more.
He also thanked the Liberian leader for the support and confidence reposed in the management of the NPA, noting, “with such support the leadership of the NPA will continue to provide tangible results that will bring economic benefits to Liberia.”
The 625 acre Samuel A. Russ Port of Greenville is the third largest contributor in terms of revenue generation next to the ports of Monrovia and Buchannan, and serves as a point of transaction for several international companies including Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL).
The port was ruined as a result of the civil crisis, a situation which stalled economic activities at the Port of Sinoe County, but with the current NPA management team, it is not only seeing a gradual improvement in vessel traffic but also restoring economic hope to the people of the county.
