The Liberian leader noted that the unprecedented representation of Liberians from all levels and persuasions of society at the independence celebration in Grenville, Sinoe County, was a demonstration of unity, adding: “Unity is even greater than Ebola because it touches one’s inner spirit to serve his nation.”
President Sirleaf made the call in a special statement she delivered at programs marking the official celebration of Liberia’s 168th Independence Anniversary in Greenville, Sinoe County on Monday.
“As Liberians have come together in unity to celebrate their community as a strong foundation for accelerated development, each one should touch one, say a good thing to someone and reach out to someone holding a placard and offer him or her a scholarship,” she urged.
President Sirleaf also pointed out that Liberians converged in Greenville to demonstrate patriotism in recognition of the achievements and quantifiable progress made by the government, especially in the fight against Ebola due to the unity and service to nation exhibited by them.
“Let today’s celebration remain in our hearts as we resolve to love our country, protect our heritage and pledge a true idea of service to our nation,” President Sirleaf stressed.
