Barton said improvement of the health sector depends on the availability of trained, specialized medical doctors, midwives, nurses and other workers in the sector.
Registrar Barton made the call Monday in the Borough of New Kru Town when the Society for the Promotion of Peace, National Reconciliation and Reunification of Liberia (SPNRL) honored him and others for their contributions to society.
The health official said besides training, there was a dire need for the government and partners to provide drugs and medical equipment to enhance productivity at health facilities.
Meanwhile, Barton has called on the government to construct housing units for health workers, noting that housing units will encourage them to perform their duties effectively.
In remarks, the National Chairman of the organization, J. Mayfield Copson, said the group selected the honorees because of their sacrificial services to the people.
