Defendant Abib Conteh, a resident of GSA Road, was July 20 arrested by the Liberia National Police based upon a complaint filed by an employee of the Express Car Rental Service, Mohammed Sheriff, alleging that the defendant along with two others came to their business center to rent a Land Cruiser Toyota Jeep.
The Police charge sheet indicated that the defendant and his accomplices used a fake Ministry of Finance and Development Planning ID card purporting to be a risk analyst of the ministry to carry on the criminal act.
The Police charge sheet also stated that after finalizing the arrangements to rent the car, a driver in person of the deceased Isaiah Sarpee was assigned to him.
It added that after a protracted period when Sheriff could not hear from the driver about his whereabouts, he went to the Ministry of Finance to gather information about the defendant and his accomplices, and was told that the accused was not an employee of the Ministry.
The charge sheet quoted the complainant as saying he then reported the matter to the police.
The charge sheet indicated that after the information was passed on, police immediately made a follow-up in Nimba County, at which time it was confirmed that the defendant and two others who are still at large murdered the deceased and took away the Land Cruiser Jeep.
The charge sheet also said that Mr. Sheriff later received word from the police that the defendant, Abib Conteh alias Lutheran Tweh, was arrested in Sierra Leone in early July 2015 by the Sierra Leonean Police through Interpol and was forwarded to court.
During police investigation, the defendant admitted committing the act, and named his accomplices as Osman Kamara and Amos Nyantee who are still at large.
Accused Conteh is detained at the Monrovia Central Prison awaiting trial, while Police are still in search of his two accomplices.
