LACC Chair Says ‘Accountability Eliminates Corruption’

MONROVIA, July 31(LINA) -The Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. James N. Verdier, has challenged accountants to be firm in performing their duties to help eliminate corruption in Liberia.

Verdier stressed that accountants should remain critical in the practice of their profession to ensure that the fight against corruption is realized, noting that every Liberian has the responsibility to battle graft.

The LACC boss proffered the challenge Thursday when he inducted the new corps of officers of the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) at the Monrovia City Hall.

He noted that accountants play a major role in battling the corruption menace in both the public and private sectors to enhance the socio-economic development of the nation.

Cllr. Verdier stressed that integrity and creditability are required elements that any accountant should strive to maintain, no matter the situation confronting him or her, and to be accountable for public funds.

The LACC official urged Liberian accountants not to compromise their profession for selfish gains and deprive the country of needed financial benefits for its growth and development.

Those inducted were Arthur  W. B. Fumbah  president; Paul C. Collins, vice president; Taweh J. Veikai, Council Member and Wah-Nim’nde Elliott Mombo, immediate past president.
