GBARNGA, July 31 (LINA) - Construction work on the Bong County Technical College (BCTC) in Gbarnga will commence by August 15 this year, the Chairman of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, Henry W. Yallah, has disclosed.

Yallah toldĀ  the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that the caucus is working with the Ministry of Public Works and relevant stakeholders to ensure that construction work begins as scheduled.

According to the lawmaker, Public Works Minister Guyde Moore has assured the Caucus that upon his return from abroad, the requisite actions will be taken for the contractor, who was not named, to start the work.

Yallah made the disclosure in the wake of reports that some citizens and students of the college are threatening to stage a protest at the Capitol Building in Monrovia to demand the completion of the college.

He said while it is true that the citizens are dissatisfied over the delay in completing the college, they should continue to be peaceful in engaging those involved in the college project.

He pointed out that over the last three months the Caucus has persistently engaged the Executive Branch to complete all documentations to facilitate disbursement of an initial US$1.8 million allotted for the work.

Yallah explained that following numerous discussions with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, she instructed the Ministry of Public Works to lead the process by providing the technical support.

He then appealed to citizens of Bong County to be patient as the leadership exerts efforts to ensure that the construction work recommences within the specified time.
