Speaking at the meeting, the Administrative Assistant to Bong County Superintendent and cross-border surveillance focal person, Joseph Urey, said the meeting is part of efforts by authorities of the two countries to give updates on the Ebola virus and how they can devise strategies to eliminate it from the region.
Giving updates about the Ebola virus in Liberia, Bong County Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sampsom Arzuakoi, told delegates that since the recent outbreak of the virus in Margibi County, which led to the death of a 17-year-old boy, there has been no new confirmed case of the virus in Liberia.
Dr. Arzuakoi said the Bong County health team in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is intensifying surveillance activities to ensure that transmission is curbed in the country.
For their part, Guinean government officials thanked their Liberian counterparts for organizing the surveillance meeting to make sure Ebola is kicked out of the region.
