MONROVIA, August 6 (LINA) - Foreign Minister Augustine Ngafuan has commended the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its humanitarian contributions to the Government and people of Liberia.

Minister Ngafuan made the commendation Wednesday when ICRC Liberia office Head of Delegation, Julien Lerisson, paid a courtesy call on him at his Foreign Ministry offices in Monrovia.
Ngafuan was especially grateful to the humanitarian organization for its support during the Ebola crisis in 2014, adding: “The Red Cross Movement has always stood with Liberia and its people during difficult moments, including the years of civil conflict throughout the 1990s.”
He assured the ICRC of his Ministry’s support and better coordination with the institution and urged the head of delegation not to hesitate to call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for any help that the ICRC needs.
In response, Lerisson presented a letter from the ICRC President, Mr. Peter Maurer, in which he (Maurer) commended the Liberian Government for defeating Ebola.
Lerisson, however, stressed the need for the passage of the Small Arms Act into law, noting that the enactment of the law on small arms is expedient, especially as UNMIL is about to draw down.
