Wang Yi also said his government will explore avenues for fresh cooperation, especially in the areas of infrastructure and human resource capacity building that will benefit Liberia and its citizens.

The Chinese Foreign Minister gave the assurance at a joint press conference with his Liberian counterpart Augustine Ngafuan in Monrovia Sunday at the end of a two-day official visit.

Wang disclosed that he has concluded discussions with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to build a coastal highway aimed at enhancing Liberia’s development drive as well as train health workers to improve the health sector of Liberia.

“We will improve Liberia’s industrial sector through the production of high quality materials; we believe doing this will pave the way for the next stage in our relationship which, though it has experienced some setbacks, is now getting better and stronger,” Wang stressed.

He emphasized that China is ready to stand by Liberia at all times as his government is open to Liberia in all areas, adding, “We have realized that we are both reliable and friendly partners as our relationship has experienced rapid growth over recent years.”

Speaking earlier, Foreign Minister Ngafuan said Liberia has recommitted itself to the One-China Policy and will continue to work with China to improve and implement the Common African Position (CAP) that China has endorsed.

Ngafuan noted that the government was honored by the visit of Wang as it reaffirms China’s continuous commitment to the longstanding friendship that has existed between the two countries.
