Carter Center, LACC, LOFA-INFONET End FOI Forum

VOINJAMA, August 13 (LINA) -A one-day accountability and transparency forum for all sectors and local government officials on the Freedom of Information Law (FOI) has ended in Voinjama City, Lofa County.


The forum was conducted by Carter Center and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) in collaboration with LOFA-INFONET.

The one-day forum, which brought together all sectors, including the joint security, religious, traditional, youth and women groups, as well as local government officials, was aimed at educating citizens on how to fight and minimize corruption through the FOI Law.

It was supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Speaking at the end of the forum, LOFA-INFONET Coordinator Boakai Kamara lauded Carter Center, LACC and UNDP for organizing the forum, noting that the education acquired will enable the citizens to know how public funds and materials are used to their benefit.

Boakai stressed the need to conduct similar forums in other parts of the county and
urged the participants to make use of the knowledge acquired to educate other community dwellers about the importance of the FOI Law and how it works.

He also called on public officials to share information with citizens on the use of public funds and materials that are intended to benefit the citizenry.
