Dr. Sabley said unlike past budgetary allotments to Phebe Hospital, the Ministry of Health has informed the hospital that the training program did not receive allotment in the 2015/ 2016 National Budget; something which, he said, will hamper effective learning at the institution.

He said although Phebe Hospital received allotment in the fiscal budget, the decision to leave out the school will strangulate the hospital’s budget.

Making the appeal in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Suakoko Tuesday, the hospital boss said upon the request of the government, the training program is tuition free and as such, the government should support this partnership in order to train more health professionals across the country.

Dr. Sabley who put the annual cost of running the nursing school at over US$ 500,000 expressed fear that the school could slow down its operation if nothing is done to address this financial crisis.

At the same time, the Phebe Hospital Medical Director has appealed to government and partners to help the hospital procure additional medical equipment, especially for the laboratories.
He told LINA that his administration has expanded the emergency room, a facility for oxygen preparation and a multipurpose warehouse. He also named the rehabilitation of the hospital’s sewage system, medical wards and some residential villas as major achievements of his administration.
