(LINA)-The former Director of Documentation and Communication of the Ministry of Public Works has been acquitted of charges of economic sabotage, misapplication of entrusted property and criminal conspiracy.

The Presiding Judge of Criminal Court “C’’ at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Peter W. Gbenewelleh, Tuesday announced the acquittal of Josefu M. Keita when he granted the defense’s motion for acquittal and ordered his release from further detention.

Keita was indicted early 2015 for allegedly knowingly, feloniously, purposely, criminally, maliciously, willfully and intentionally stealing US$12,600.00 intended for Flash Point Consultancy, Inc. for public relations services between March and December 2015.

Handing down his final ruling, Judge Gbenewelleh said the evidence before the court is not sufficient and conclusive to establish the guilt of the defendant, and that the defendant is therefore entitled to acquittal.

The indictment alleged that co- defendant Keita intentionally, willfully, wrongfully, and criminally created an opportunity for Flash Point Consultancy Inc. to defraud the Government and people of Liberia.
Meanwhile, Judge Gbenewelleh has restored all Keita’s fundamental rights with immediate effect, and ordered the sheriff of the court to return his bail bond.
