MONROVIA, August 26 (LINA) – With President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s departure on a visit to Japan, Vice President Joseph Boakai Wednesday presided over a cabinet meeting with several issues, including Liberia’s bilateral engagement with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), high on the agenda.

The meeting held in the C. Cecil Dennis Conference Hall at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together members of the cabinet as well as high-power MCC delegates, including the MCC Lead Representative and Legal Counsel in Liberia.

At the start of the meeting, Finance Minister Amara Konneh explained that Liberia has, since 2008, made significant strides in improving most of its indicators as required by the MCC.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation is a bilateral U.S. foreign policy aid agency established by the U.S. Congress in 2004 to institute a new concept towards foreign aid.

As an independent agency separate from the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the MCC examines a country’s performance on 17 independent and transparency policy indicators before being made eligible to receive assistance.
