(LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has requested the House of Representatives to postpone its closure for recess by six weeks to allow the deliberation and passage into law of several bills sent to it in recent weeks.

President Sirleaf named the MCC Compact, Electricity Bill and Police and Immigration Acts as some of the instruments she wants the legislators to pass into law before they adjourn for their annual break.

By law, the House of Representatives should close for its annual recess in September of each year and return in January the following year.

The President’s request was contained in a communication to House Speaker J. Alex Tyler dated August 27 and read in Session on Thursday.

Following the reading of the communication by Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon, Plenary reverted to Executive Session.

The outcome of the Session was not made available to legislative reporters up to press time.

However, political pundits told the Liberia News Agency that the lawmakers will accept the President’s request in the spirit of coordination and collaboration.
