(LINA) -The National Elections Commission (NEC) Monday launched the Civic Voter Education (CVE) toolkit to provide standards for the effective dissemination of electoral messages.

Speaking at the launch at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia, Chairman Jerome
Korkoya described it the kit as one of the vital tools that the commission has produced and adopted in its endeavor to improve the conduct of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in Liberia.

He noted that the development of the toolkit was predicated upon an index study commissioned by NEC in 2014 which revealed that one of the surest ways to improve the electoral process and encourage greater participation is through enhanced and sustainable CVE.

The toolkit also endeavors to ensure equitable and increased participation in elections, he stated, adding that it is consistent with the commission’s integrated CVE programs, adding that the toolkit further seeks to address message and outreach gaps.

Meanwhile, Korkoya has challenged partners and actors, individuals and institutions involved with the conduct of the CVE program to plan, design and conduct their activities in keeping with the established procedures.

The toolkit contains information including the design and use of CVE messages, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and strategies for mainstreaming
gender in elections.

Others are the direct engagement of physically challenged minority groups and the general public in outreach activities as well as the use of the media, production and use of the print media, among others.
