She said she takes responsibility as head of the government, though she never thought that things could have turned out this way because she believed in the senior management and Board of Directors at the entity.

“As the head of the country you have to take responsibility even though you have a very able director and a very able senior management I entrusted to make decisions on behalf of the company,” she said.
“As the head of the country anything that does not work the way we want I ultimately will be responsible,” she added, according to an Executive Mansion release.

NOCAL has begun some structural adjustments to avoid its collapse. An interim management team is being put in place to steer the affairs of the company.

Former public works minister Samuel Kofi Woods, at a program for a group of Liberian women last week, called on President Sirleaf and her government to take full responsibility for the financial problem at the entity.

Woods suggested that the President suspends the payment of severance and other benefits to those retired or requested to resign until a full investigation is conducted.
