According to Public Works Minister William Moore, the ministry has already completed feasibility study and design of the 284-kilometer road. It has broken the road into two lots.

He said Lot One will run from Gbarnga in Bong County to Konia in Lofa County, while Lot Two will run from Konia to Mendicorma in Lofa County on the Liberia-Guinea border.

Minister Moore disclosed that the Public Works Ministry is soliciting an initial amount of US$70million from the Saudi Development Fund, Qatar Fund and the Arab Bank for Economic Development for Africa, to begin the project.

“Once we get the money we need to start the project, we will begin the formality of contracting companies for effective work,” Moore states.

Meanwhile, Minister Moore has disclosed that the ministry is seeking the passage of a Road Maintenance Act which will seek to set aside a certain amount for the maintenance of roads across the country.

He added that when passed the Act will divide the country into five zones, and each of the zones will submit an annual budget for maintenance of their respective roads.
