He noted that the health of any nation is paramount to its development agenda and, as such, building a resilient health sector is important for the government and people of Liberia.

Pro-Tempore Jallah made the observation over the weekend in his keynote address at the graduation and culmination of the Carter Center Training of 22 General and Mental Health Clinicians in Gbarnga, Bong County.

He noted that for 168 years, Liberians have bragged about historical achievements, while their country is still behind many young democracies it guided to independence, especially in the area of health.
“We must take steps now to upgrade our health system,” he added.
He said the trauma of the nearly 14 years of war in Liberia continues to linger amongst those who were hardest-hit, increasing the number of mentally deranged citizens.
Jallah lauded Carter Center for its timely response to the country’s health needs by training health specialists to effectively deal with mental health, a contribution, he noted, that will reduce Liberia’s population of mentally ill people.
