Minister Brown said it appears that most Liberians do not care or know about the values of the country’s national Awards, Honors and Symbols.

The Information Minister observed that citizens usually pay less attention when national awards or honors are being conferred on distinguished people who made significant contributions to the Liberian society.

According to a MICAT release issued here, Minister Brown made the remarks Wednesday when a delegation from the Governance Commission (GC) paid a courtesy call on him at his Capitol Hill office.

The release quotes the Information Minister as saying that the more citizens are educated on the values of their national awards, honors and symbols, the more they will aspire for national recognition.

Minister Brown then commended the GC for the level of work it has done aimed at reforming the country’s governance system.

Also speaking, GC Vice Chairperson Madam Elizabeth Mulbah said the commission is willing to work with the Ministry of Information to educate Liberians on national merits.

Madam Mulbah, who is responsible for Civic Engagement, National Identity and Visioning at the Commission, also stressed the importance of cultural symbols.

Other members of the GC delegation were Mr. W. Kpangbala Sengbe, Program Manager and Mr. Stephen S. Manley, Executive Director.
