Observer newspaper to appear before the court on Tuesday, September 8, to show cause why it should not be held in contempt.
The order was prompted by the publication of an article in the Daily Observer newspaper which erroneously reported that the Jones and Jones Law Firm had already been held in contempt, when the court had only ordered that the Clerk of Court issues a Writ of Summons on the law firm to appear.
According to the Judge Gbeneweleh, the Daily Observer also reported other things that the court did not say in the case involving the 10 former employees of the First International Bank (FBI) who are charged with money laundering, theft of property, criminal conspiracy, forgery and criminal facilitation, causing the FIB to lose over US$3 million.
Judge Gbeneweleh said the publication by the Daily Observer newspaper has embarrassed the court, adding that it is “highly contemptuous.”
Meanwhile, Judge Gbeneweleh has withdrawn the charge against the Jones and Jones Law Firm based upon a plea by the firm that it has never represented the former employees of the First International Bank.
