(LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has underscored the critical role of Liberian security in the general welfare of the nation.

Delivering the keynote address at the joint graduation program of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization and the Liberia National Fire Service in Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County at the weekend, Vice President Boakai said.

“Realizing the serious challenge at our borders, we wish to assure the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization and the Liberia National Fire Service of Government’s commitment to strengthen their capacity and also address the issues of accommodation and logistics.”

Three hundred and thirty eight personnel received certificates after successfully completing their training in Immigration and fire prevention.

According to a press release, Vice President Boakai represented President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as guest of honor at the program.

“Realizing the target as projected by the Government of Liberia, it is incumbent upon us to move fast with the additional recruitment,” the Liberian Vice President said adding, “today marks another turning point in our standing national commitment to take up the challenge in the wake of UNMIL’s drawdown.”

“This graduation strengthens government’s desire to rebuild its security sector so as to build the level of confidence that attracts trade and investment,” the VP added.

The Liberian Vice President then assured government’s fullest support to the country’s security apparatus as they take full charge of national security. He lauded them for their continued vigilance during UNMIL’s peace-keeping sojourn in effectively performing their duties in spite of constraints.
