The LCC in a letter published recently noted that the issues of corruption, education, health and poverty remain a serious challenge that the government has done little or nothing to tackle.
But the government noted that the declaration of corruption as a ‘Public Enemy’ and/or a ‘Vampire’ should remind all of the seriousness it attaches to the fight against this societal ill as well as the duty Liberians share to fight it in the government, church, school, community and homes.
“We need to collectively fight this vampire; fighting corruption is not left to the government alone as has been perceived by the Council, because those professed to be corrupt come from the church, school and community; to think corruption is only in government is what we differ with,” he government said in a statement.
The statement added: “If the fight against corruption is made inclusive, we will continue to be successful;” noting, “There is no doubt that the Church is an enduring pillar of the state and as such, this enviable position imposes on it a duty to be enjoined with the government to secure the country whose lifeblood this vampire is desperate to suck away.”
