MONROVIA, October 12 (LINA) -The Chief Pharmacist of Liberia has pledged government’s commitment to strengthening the mental health service of the country.

Mr. Tijli Tyee noted that the fact that a Mental Health Bill is before the National Legislature for enactment into law signifies Liberia’s readiness to tackle mental health problems.

Tyee observed that crises like the civil war and the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak pose danger to any healthy population as they can cause mental illness among the population.

The Chief Pharmacist was speaking at the weekend as Liberia joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Mental Health Day at a program held at the Monrovia Christian Fellowship in Sinkor.

He noted that mentally ill people are not foreigners, but Liberians who need to be treated like any other Liberian patient at the various clinics and hospitals across the country, noting that anybody can be affected with mental illness.

He indicated that government is working along with partners to revamp the Mental Health Unit of the Ministry of Health to ensure that mental health treatment is available at health facilities across the country.
