MONROVIA, October 15 (LINA) - Deputy Health Minister and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Francis Kateh is calling for the enactment of a law that will provide for the construction of hand washing stations at all public buildings.

He made the statement Thursday during the celebration of this year’s Global Hand Washing Day at the William V. S. Tubman High School in Sinkor, near Monrovia.

Dr. Kateh said the enactment of the law and subsequent institution of hand washing stations at public facilities will save the country much as it will help to prevent disease outbreaks and spread.

He noted that the newly adopted practice of hand-washing since the Ebola outbreak has helped to decrease the number of cholera and typhoid cases in the country.

“The prudent thing to do is to work with the National Legislature and global partners on the creation of said law,” Dr. Kateh emphasized.

The Chief Medical Officer has, meanwhile, challenged the public to maintain hand washing buckets in homes, business centers, communities and public buildings, adding, “Indeed clean hands are strong hands.”

Global Hand Washing Day is a campaign aimed a mobilizing and motivating people around the world to improve daily their hand washing habit, especially at critical moments.
