MONROVIA, October 23 (LINA) - The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Elfrieda Tamba, has urged Liberians to be voluntarily tax compliant to empower government to initiate and implement development projects.

Tamba stated that government cannot initiate development projects such as road construction, electricity, water supply and schools if the citizens are not tax compliant, noting that tax payers are nation builders.

The LRA boss made the call Friday at a Private Sector Consultative Forum with the LRA and the Board of Tax Appeals in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) held at a local hotel in Monrovia.

She explained that the consultative forum was intended to educate Liberians and tax payers to understand their obligation to contribute to nation building by law.

She stressed that educating tax payers about the Revenue Code of Liberia will enhance the compliance of tax payment which could generate sufficient revenue for government to implement projects, noting that taxes generated empower government financially.

Commissioner Tamba emphasized that when Liberians are adequately informed about paying taxes, government will depend on them to initiate and accelerate development through tax collections.
