Assistant Education Minister Augustine M. Kuleh said the food items were donated recently by Vice President Joseph Boakai for distribution to selected schools in Nimba, Lofa, Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount and Grand Bassa counties to strengthen the school feeding program.
Minister Kuleh made the disclosure Tuesday at the Ministry of Education as the
ministry continues the distribution of the food items to schools in Montserrado County.
He noted that school feeding is crucial to retaining in the classrooms students whose parents cannot afford to provide breakfast for them, and stressed the need to prioritize the school feeding program.
He pointed out that although no money has been allotted for the program in the National Budget, the World Food Program (WFP) and other partners are assisting some schools across the country to feed students on campuses.
Minister Kuleh emphasized that to retain students in school, it is essential to institutionalize the school feeding program in every school in the country, stressing that food plays a major role in the learning process of children.
