MONROVIA, February 8 (LINA) - The Liberia National Police is asking for information from the general public in locating Mr. Simeon Freeman, leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC).

According to a MICAT release, Mr. Freeman is wanted by the police to assist with ongoing investigation prompted by statements attributed to him accusing the Liberian Government of organizing a death squad to eliminate ten leading opposition figures.

The police also want Freeman to further explain his assertion, among other statements, that “if anybody was an enemy to Harry Greaves it was the government.”

Having failed to abide by a police invitation, a team of police investigators visited Mr. Freeman’s premises to speak with him regarding the ongoing investigation but he was not seen.

The claims by Mr. Freeman are “very grave and as such, the LNP is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness it deserves,” according to the MICAT statement issued Sunday.

Hence, the Police want to encourage Mr. Freeman to cooperate fully by turning himself over and as well call on those having information regarding his location to contact the nearest police station.

MICAT urges that these investigations ought not to reflect on the enviable record of the Liberian Government in protecting freedom of speech and of the press, said the statement signed by Deputy Information Minister Isaac W. Jackson.
