MONROVIA, April 4 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai says he will continue to work with Liberians at home and in the Diaspora, friends of Liberia, partners and institutions in and out of the country for sustained support to the country’s healthcare delivery system.

Vice President Boakai said “there is a lot of goodwill out there” for support to the nation’s healthcare delivery system following the devastating Ebola crisis that struck the country in 2014.

He made the pledge over the weekend when he turned over medical supplies and equipment worth over US$700,000 to the Ministry of Health in Congo Town, a release from the Office of the Vice President said.

The supplies and equipment were donated by Liberians in Phoenix, Arizona in collaboration with Project Cure, a benevolent Healthcare Foundation based in Colorado, the United States of America; Coalition of Liberians to Combat Ebola in Liberia, Michael Fry, Project Manager, CURE; Dr. Robert Sherman.

Others are City Mayor Gregg Stanton; Chairman of COCEL, Mel Hannah; Dr. C.T. Wright, Chancellor of Maricopa Community; Pastor Warren Steward of First Institutional Baptist Church and the Director of CURE, Katie Mabardy.

Also among the donors are Arizona Congresswoman Krysten Sinema; Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona; Sando Wayne and Gayah Fahnbelleh of the Patriots for the Transformation of Liberia; and Dr. Glasper of the University of Phoenix, who raised US$20,000 to cover shipment.

According to the Vice President, these kinds of exercises and programs are intended to support our people and strengthen the economy, stressing that the supplies and equipment will be distributed by the Ministry of Health, noting, “this is our way of identifying with the people of Liberia”.

He then reiterated his willingness to consistently mobilize support for the health sector.

Receiving the medical equipment and supplies, Health Minister Dr. Bernice Dahn thanked Vice President Boakai for the donation and assured that the supplies will be used for the intended purpose, the release stated.
