MONROVIA, April 4 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai at the head of a five-member delegation is in Johannesburg, South Africa to hold discussions on increased support to Liberia’s Agenda for Transformation.

The Agenda for Transformation is a program of government that focuses on addressing the socio-economic needs of the nation and its people.

While in South Africa, Vice President Boakai will also hold discussions in Cape Town with the Deputy President of South Africa, Comrade Cyril Ramaphosa, on increased support to Liberia’s reconstruction agenda.

VP Boakai will also address a cross-section of high profile South African business men and women at an investment forum.

Vice President Boakai departed the country over the weekend and is accompanied by the Minister of State without Portfolio, Sylvester Grisgby, Acting Public Works Minister Layfette Giddings, Liberia’s Ambassador to South Africa Lois Brutus, and Public Policy Advisor to the Vice President Anthony Kesselly.

Speaking to reporters before departure at the Roberts International Airport in Margibi County, Vice President Boakai said he remains committed to the implementation of the agenda for transformation because the agenda will address the needs of the people of Liberia.

He called on politicians and those seeking power to avoid diatribes and invectives that could undermine the peace process, but rather conduct their activities in a more responsible and mature manner.

He challenged politicians to discuss issues that will positively impact the lives of Liberians and put forward their plans for the country’s advancement.

Vice President Boakai said sustained attacks directed at him and each other by some politicians through press conferences, talk shows and the social media will only undermine the democratic process, and rob the people of discussions on substantive issues.

Vice President Boakai said as the 2017 presidential race draws closer he wants to see a unified Liberia, a country in which all Liberians will live together in peace, and urged would-be leaders to think, love, and build Liberia.

He pointed out that Liberia is the only constituency that all Liberians have and therefore must do all in their power to keep the peace, harmony and sustain the peace attained over the decade.
