“Under your dynamic leadership Madam President, we are a freer, if even, fearless society; we are more democratic, more accountable, more transparent, more expressive, more tolerant and increasingly more developed”, Brown emphasized.

Brown made the statement after he was officially commissioned as Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Cuba by President Sirleaf at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia on Tuesday.

“Today, unarguably, we have paved more roads, built more schools, and are on the cusp of providing more electricity at cheaper and more affordable rates to the country”, he furthered.

According to him, Liberia and Liberians are today respected around the world, and because of the newer and stronger foundations of democratic governance so firmly established, Liberians are repositioned to do more – to achieve higher heights for themselves and the country.

Brown pointed out that though it may seem impossible to achieve all that the government set out to do, he pledged to follow the President’s lead to work as hard as possible to the very last second knowing that public service is not about getting it right all of the time.

He thanked the Liberian leader for the opportunity to serve his country in two important capacities and for her exemplary qualities of leadership, diligence, tolerance, honesty, open-mindedness and faith in a better and brighter future for Liberia.

“I take on this new task fully aware of its increased responsibilities as Liberia undertakes two important milestones in its development – the ongoing UNMIL drawdown and the ensuing elections; I feel proud to represent our country at the UN encouraged by the diligence with which you continue to lead our country,

He observed that public service is not about perfection in all things; rather, it is about working diligently for a cause that is perfect.

He noted that no cause has been more perfect than returning Liberia to peace, security and stability, giving its rightful place of respect in the comity of nations, as well as tolerating our differences in tribe, age, gender and religion to build a more cohesive and functioning society.
