“We must take ownership of the 17 goals enshrined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as we do with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and our own vision 2030, Agenda For Transformation (AFT)”, Minister Kamara stressed.
Foreign Minister Kamara made the call after being conferred upon the Liberian Distinction with the Grade of Dame Great Band in the Humane Order of African Redemption by President Sirleaf in the C. Cecil Dennis Hall at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia recently.
Prior to the convocation for the referral of the Distinction upon the Minister Kamara, she and 13 other officials of the government were officially commissioned by the Liberian leader, as they take on new assignments in and out of Liberia.
Ambassador Kamara added that these agendas hold the promise of reducing the disparities and inequalities which create fragile grounds for strife and conflict in societies; noting “Preservation of our cherished peace and security in Liberia demands that we pay keen attention to these issues.”
She recorded that the global community has agreed that strong and inclusive leadership is an indispensable driver of development; something that President Sirleaf has vividly demonstrated over the years for which Liberia has registered significant improvements in her political, legal and economic systems.
She noted that though the govt. has made notable gains to improve the well-being of its citizens, more needs to be done to alleviate poverty amongst Liberians, and as such, they are committed to work with the Liberian leader to implement the government’s prioritized actions agreed under their respective portfolios for the common good of the country.
The 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are Poverty, Hunger and Food security, Health, Education, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Water and Sanitation and Energy.
Others include Economic growth, Infrastructure and industrialization, Inequality, Cities, Sustainable Consumption and Production, Climate Change, Oceans, Biodiversity and Forest Desertification, Peace and Justice and Partnerships.
