MONROVIA, April 7 (LINA) -The Orange Group, through its subsidiary, Orange Cote d'Ivoire, has bought 100 percent of the Liberian cell phone operator Cellcom.

“This acquisition is part of Orange Cote d’Ivoire’s development strategy to accelerate growth by entering new emerging markets with high potential,” said a statement Wednesday.

The leading mobile telephone operator in Cote d’Ivoire “will provide marketing expertise, technical and commercial network” to the Liberian operator in order to "contribute to economic growth in the neighboring country."

Cellcom, which boasts of 1.4 million subscribers, has a great growth potential in the coming years, the statement indicated.

Orange Cote d’Ivoire is the leading operator of mobile telephony in the West African country, with more than 10 million subscribers, ahead of MTN Networks (8,130,003) and Moov (5,408,048), respectively, according to a report issued in December 2015 by the Ivoirian Authority for the Regulation of Telecommunications (ARTCI).
