MONROVIA April 5 (LINA) – The Presiding Judge of Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of justice in Monrovia, Judge Blamo A. Dixon, has granted the amended motion to justify the criminal appearance bond filed in favor of four former government officials charged with a number of crimes.

They are Miata Beysolow, former Minister of Commerce and Industry; Steve Flahnpaye, Director for Price Analysis and Marketing, Ministry of Commerce and  T. Nelson Williams, former Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC).

Others are Aaron J.Wheagar, LPRC Deputy Managing Director for Operations and implementing agent for the Japanese Oil Grant at LPRC and leading businessman, Siaka Toure, Chief Executive Officer of authorized agent Aminata.

They were indicted in February by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County for allegedly embezzling government funds in the tone of US$5,764,110.84.

Judge Dixon, in his ruling on Tuesday, indicated that the defendants’ amended motion to justify surety bond is allowed, confirmed, affirmed and endorsed by the court.

He said they shall not be imprisoned because their bond is now sufficient enough by virtue of the certificate issued in favor of the surety of the accused.

He noted that the Accident and Casualty Insurance Company is certified by the
Central Bank of Liberia and prosecution's exception to the defendants’ criminal appearance bond is denied and dismissed.

Judge Dixon further stated that the US$2,000,000 criminal appearance bond filed by the defendants was approved by the court, but prosecution filed an exception in that it is fatally insufficient and does not meet the requirements and standards of law.
