The Istanbul Program of Action, or IPoA, was adopted by the 4th U. N. Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey.
It charts the international community's vision and strategy for the sustainable development of LDCs for the period 2011 to 2020, with a strong focus on developing their productive capacities.
According to the dispatch, Vice President Boakai will be the first to address the Plenary of the Midterm Review which runs from May 27 to 29.
The dispatch said VP Boakai will again join world leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of the implementation of the Istanbul Program of Action by the LDCs and their development partners, share best practices and lessons learned and identify obstacles and constraints encountered and actions and initiatives needed to overcome them, as well as new challenges and emerging issues.
The midterm review will reaffirm the global commitment to address the special needs of the least developed countries made at the Fourth U.N. Conference on the LDCs and to strengthen the global partnership for development for LDCs in all priority areas, while taking into account the post 2015 development agenda as it relates to the LDCs.
According to the dispatch, VP Boakai will be intervening in the deliberations by informing the world leaders and delegates from LDCs at the High Level Midterm Review of the IPOA, how Liberia’s Agenda for Transformation ties in with the Istanbul program of Action which seeks to address the needs of least developed nations, something Liberia is domesticating and implementing.
Vice President Boakai will outline the path Liberia has embarked upon to transform the lives of the people.
The Comprehensive High- Level Midterm Review of the Istanbul Program of Action will be preceded by an Investment Forum, at which Liberia will be represented by Commerce and Industry Minister Axel Addy, who is part of the Vice President’s delegation to the Istanbul Program of Action in Antalya.
Meanwhile, Vice President Boakai has been meeting with a cross-section of the Liberian Community in Turkey.
At a meeting in Istanbul Tuesday, a seven-man delegation headed by Mohammed Amjad Sonnie told the Vice President that they were happy to see him and his delegation in Turkey and appealed to the Government of Liberia to look into the issue of a Liberian consulate to address the diplomatic needs of Liberians in Turkey.
The spokesman said some of his colleagues were studying in that country, while others were engaged in ventures such as business.
He also told the Vice President that the celebration of Liberia’s Independence Day has brought Liberians in Turkey together more than any other activity.
Responding, Vice President Boakai thanked the Liberian community for their courtesy and promised to study whatever issues were raised in a document that was presented to him, said the dispatch from Antalya, Turkey.
