MONROVIA, June 17 (LINA) - The National Elections Commission (NEC) has set October 10, 2017 as the official date for voting in the 2017 general elections in the country.

The commission has also set February 1 to March 24, 2017 as the Period for Voter Registration while the Writs of elections is scheduled to be issued on May 9, 2017.
According to a NEC release, June 10 to 20, 2017 will be used to exhibit the Provisional Registration Roll as well as the distribution of Voter ID Cards.
The election governance body has indicated that candidate nomination for the 2017 general elections will run from July 2 to 24, 2017.
Liberians will beginning August 8 to October 8, 2017 engage in campaigning for the president or representatives they desire to represent their interest.
“Accordingly, the announcement of the final results of the October 10 poll will take place on October 25, 2017,” the release said.
The dates were released Friday at the headquarters of the Commission in Monrovia.
In an official statement to release what the commission called “Key Dates,” the NEC Chairman Jeriome G. Korkoya said the release of the key dates is an expression of the preparedness of the Commission to conduct free and fair elections in Liberia in 2017.
He said some activities of the dates released Friday are subject to adjustment based on prevailing circumstances.

The release of the calendar of the 2017 General Elections is part of efforts by the NEC to stimulate public awareness and participation in all aspects of the pending electoral process.
