GANTA, June 20 (LINA) - Authorities of Nimba County have dedicated another health facility named the E&J Medical Center in District # 1, Nimba County.

It took three years to complete the US$2 million facility.

It joins the Jackson F. Doe in Tappita and Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Ganta as the three leading facilities in Nimba County.

The Chinese-built Jackson F. Doe Hospital was opened in 2011, while the Ganta UMH was constructed in 1926 by an American Missionary Dr. George Way Harley.

Speaking at the ceremony over the weekend, the Administrator of the hospital, Lawrence Tozoe said the completion of the facility brings relief not only to the people of the county but also to every Liberian.

“Liberians, especially those residing in Nimba, do not have to travel to neighboring Ivory Coast and Guinea to seek advanced medical treatment,” Tozoe said.

He observed that with the state-of-the-art equipment and professional health workers and doctors from both at home and abroad at the hospital, the facility stands to be one of the best in the country.

Tozoe has just returned from the Republic of India with a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration.

Also speaking at the program, District # 1 Representative Jeremiah Koung said the construction of the medical center is “a dream come true for the people of the district who for too long yearned for better health facility in the area.”

The Nimba County lawmaker noted that the facility will provide services not only for the people of District One but the entire country and the sub-region, including neighboring Guinea and Ivory Coast.

Prior to the construction of the hospital, the Ganta United Methodist Hospital was been the only major referral hospital for the people of District # 1 and other parts of Nimba as well as neighboring.
