The writ was filed by Montserrado County District Six Representative, Edwin Snowe, against House Speaker Alex Tyler for his recent action to sustain a motion compelling the body to skip its regular roll call and maintain the day's attendance for a period of one month.

The court has reinstated the stay order of June 10 on the speaker's decision to skip regular roll call for a month and urged the body to return to status quo ante.

Speaker Tyler, as contained in the writ of prohibition, was requested to appear before the full bench of the Supreme Court for the disposition of the constitutional issue raised in Snowe’s petition of June 9 to show cause why the petitioner's petition as requested should not be granted.

It can be recall that the Supreme Court on June 13, as a result of the writ of prohibition filed by Snowe against Speaker Tyler, ordered the House of Representatives to discuss and settle as required per law the issue as was contained in the complaint filed before the court.

The court, however, stressed that the petitioner may pursue the applicable legal remedy for final disposition of the matter if it was not settled in two sessions within the confines of legality.

Recently, Speaker Tyler has come under huge criticisms from his colleagues in the legislature, having being named along with other current and past officials of government of accepting bribes as was alleged in a recent report released by Global Witness.

Snowe, who is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has formed part of a bloc of the House of Representatives calling on the speaker to recuse himself from presiding over activities of the body and commit himself to ongoing criminal proceedings.
