GBARNGA, June 22 (LINA) - The Daeputy Managing Director at the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Gertrude W. K. Nyaley, has said forestry in Liberia represents one of the vital economic pillars in the country’s post-war reconstruction efforts.

She noted that in a sustainable manner, the FDA finds itself shouldering the statutory obligation to conform to international best practices, among which are the principle and ideal of forestry conservation which are considered cardinal.

Madam Nyaley made the statement Monday in Gbarnga, Bong County at
the start of a two-day workshop on improving National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) Viability for Compliance and Monitoring held under the sponsorship of the United States Agency for International Development USIAD-GEM.

“Understandably, the forestry sector is our heritage and the future reliance for succeeding generations which should and must be managed with every possible care in the context of national interest,” she noted

Nyaley stated that unlike yesteryears when the approach and understanding of forestry basically centered on the commercial aspect, today’s approach has taken other dimensions which include conservation method as well as community forestry program in line with global dispensation.
