MONROVIA, June 26 (LINA) - Deputy Information Minister Isaac Jackson says the visit of American First Lady Michelle Obama to Liberia is a testimony of continuous progress and a demonstration of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s impeccable leadership capability.

He called for an interpretation of the presence of First Lady Obama as President Barrack Obama himself being in the country.

Jackson made the observation at the Ministry of Information recent press briefing in Monrovia.

As part of the ‘Let Girls Learn’ initiative, American First Lady Michelle Obama will make a stop outside the Liberian capital Monrovia on Monday, June 27, to highlight the US Government’s work to help adolescent girls go to school and stay in school.

According to the US Embassy, she will also visit Marrakech in Morocco where she will speak to girls and young women about the power of education and urge them to do their part to help girls worldwide.

The embassy said the American First Lady will be joined by her children Malia and Sasha and her mother Mrs. Marian Robinson and they are expected to visit Margibi County in Liberia; Marrakech, Morocco and Madrid, Spain from June 27- July 1.

According to Minister Jackson, the visit is also a confirmation of the Liberian leader’s state of the nation address when she said: “Liberia is safe and secure,” adding, “The visit of the First Lady of the United States of America is a shining testament that Liberia is safe and secure and that it is ready for business.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Information Minister is calling on representatives of local media institutions wishing to cover the US First Lady to diligently follow all established measures to avoid embarrassment or confrontation with security as security men will not take lightly the protection of First Lady Obama and family.

Her visit will highlight both the Peace Corps’ work to help girls in underserved communities build self-confidence, communication, and other leadership skills and new programming from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) aimed at improving access to quality education and life skills for adolescent girls across Liberia
