He described peace as a precious commodity, and urged Liberians not to allow “this hard-earned peace to be threatened by anyone.”

According to the Liberia News Agency, Dr. Nyan made the remarks Tuesday when he served as orator of this year’s independence day celebration in Monrovia.

He said Liberians must no longer “fight fight war, but must help the government fight diseases, corruption and hatred.

He admonished Liberians to encourage each other with progressive ideas in order to build their country and make the country once more the pride of Africa and the envy of the world.

Dr. Nyan pointed out that the achievement of peace provides Liberians an opportunity and obligation to rebuild their country’s democracy.

Looking at Liberia’s turbulent past, Dr. Nyan noted that for a long time, Liberians have opted for a peaceful and non-violent democratic transformation ranging from the 1980 military intervention to the civil unrest that lasted for about 14 years which cultivated a visual circle of bloodshed and setbacks.

Dr. Nyan lauded President Sirleaf, the Government and people of Liberia as well as the international community for keeping the peace in Liberia over the past ten years.

The National Orator spoke on the theme: “Requirements for Consolidating Progress towards the Transformation of Liberia.”
