She said the construction of the David A. Straz Technical and Vocational College in Garwular District was made possible by collaboration between the people of Grand Cape Mount County and authorities of the University of Liberia.
The Liberia News Agency today quoted an Executive Mansion release as saying that President Sirleaf made the commendation over the weekend when she, accompanied by Ambassador David A. Straz, an American humanitarian, visited the David A. Straz Technical and Vocational College of the University of Liberia in Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County, as part of activities marking Liberia’s 169th Independence Anniversary.
She said in times of budgetary constraints, it is good for Liberia to turn to such good friends as Ambassador David A. Straz, who want to see Liberia grow.
Appealed to students of the institution and citizens of Grand Cape Mount County to adhere to the advice of the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Emmet A. Dennis, for the College to
offer Associate degrees in related disciplines until qualified instructors are recruited to upgrade the institution to BSc. level.
The college currently offers Agriculture, Engineering and Education for two and half years and three years in engineering respectively.
President Sirleaf said while government looks forward to Sime Darby to fulfill its corporate social responsibility aimed by supporting institutions like the David A. Straz Technical and Vocational College, the citizens should not endeavor to protect the facilities of the college against theft and vandalism.
In remarks, Ambassador David A. Straz commended President Sirleaf, authorities of the University of Liberia and students of the College for working to build the college.
Grand Cape Mount County Senior Senator Edward B. Dagoshe, commended President Sirleaf and Mr. Straz, as well as the administration of the University of Liberia for building a foundation for the future generation of Grand Cape Mount and Liberia.
The college currently has 356 registered candidates for its 2016/2017 Entrance and Placement Exam, the highest, since its establishment in 1983.
