VP Boikai said to build this environment of trust and common concern, nations in the sub-region must be empowered to develop home-grown solutions.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Dr. Boakai challenged the participants to do more as quickly as possible to enable the sub-region detect Yellow Fever or Ebola outbreaks.

He acknowledged that the participants deliberated on key issues that have been highlighted in reports that have reviewed the Ebola outbreak with the goal of evaluating its feasibility and ability to build core capacity to prevent, detect and respond to epidemic threats.

He said the communities are essential partners for healthy nations that can rapidly contain health threats.

VP Boakai commended the participants from Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone for “taking a step further in the right direction by signing a communiqué to build the appropriate impetus required to effect genuine changes in our countries, the region and the global community."

He urged the participants to continue to influence key decision makers in their countries and the African region to identify domestic funding for the achievement of some of the key changes.

He also wants them to become ambassadors and advocates for the key actions agreed upon during the meeting.
