Chairman Korkoya said the increase would create easy access to polling stations by voters who usually walk long distances to cast their ballots.

He said the number of polling centers would be increased from its current size to more than 6,000 in 2017, according to a NEC release issued Monday.

Chairman Korkoya has also disclosed plans by the Commission to undertake massive Civic/Voter Education activities using varied outreach platforms in the country to elicit massive public participation during the 2017 polls.

The NEC official made the disclosure Monday when a four-member delegation from the US Embassy headed by Deputy Chief of Mission, Samuel R. Watson, paid a courtesy call on the Commission.

The US Embassy delegation inquired about the level of preparation being made by NEC for the conduct of free and fair elections in 2017, including funding, Civic /Voter Education and logistics, among others.
