MONROVIA, September 19 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has observed that upholding transparency and accountability by government officials will ensure efficient and transparent governance.

VP Boakai observed that access to information is one of those requirements that are crucial to the running of an efficient and transparent Government.
He said it was on this basis that the Government of Liberia enacted into law the Freedom of Information Act in 2010 which is an information legal framework to move the country forward.

Vice President Boakai made the observation Monday at the Independent Information Commission (IIC) headquarters in Sinkor during a visit to familiarize himself with activities of the commission.

The VP said he is in full support of the Act creating the IIC because there are benefits that come with the implementation of this information legal framework in Government, a release from the Office of the Vice President said.

Vice President Boakai assured that his office will continue to comply with this and all other laws, and encouraged the IIC to continue educating the Liberian people about the Freedom of Information Act in the leeward ounties, the release
said.

Earlier, Commissioner Cllr. Mark Bedor-Wla Freeman welcomed the Vice President to the IIC offices and briefed him on the activities of the Commission since he took over as head of the Commission four years ago.

The Vice President was later taken on a guided tour of the Offices of the IIC.
